Reviews & Scores
Spicier if equally restrained aromas are comprised mostly of wild red and dark berries plus whiffs of earth, humus, anise, violet and gentle wood. The sleekly textured and tautly muscular flavors are concentrated and powerful and the intensity is most impressive as it does a slow build from the mid-palate culminating in a superbly complex and well-balanced finale. This youthfully austere and beautifully harmonious effort, in fact the word Zen comes to mind, is also going to require extended cellaring in order to realize its full, and considerable, potential. One to look for. * Don't miss! Outstanding*

Offering up aromas of wild berries, cassis, peonies, exotic spices and orange rind, Fourrier's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is medium to full-bodied, lively and enveloping, with a deep and multidimensional core of fruit, bright acids and fine concentration. Seamless and elegant, it's an especially sensual vintage of this cuvée.

Fourrier's 0.89ha of Clos St. Jacques next to the Rousseau parcel was planted in 1910 and yields miniscule quantities of very small berries. The bunches are destemmed and very slowly macerate - with mostly whole grapes - before a fermentation with gentle punching down by hand. The wines are aged two winters in cask (20% new). The result shows an exquisite definition, a lovely, supple red fruit character, plenty of tannin and freshness, plus an impressive depth of flavour.
