Reviews & Scores
The 1989 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne had an exotic nose with aromas of foie gras ice cream, if you have ever had such a thing. It had this sweet delicacy, as well as great perfume and an open-wide personality. This secondary, mushroomy complexity was great as well. The palate was long and citrusy with nice dust flavors, delicious and round and morphing into crème brulee with time in the glass. - JK.

The 1989 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a real success, with this cuvée's customary tension and cut counterbalancing the style of the vintage to terrific effect. Offering up aromas of sweet orchard fruit, beeswax, buttery pastry, nougat and white flowers, it's full-bodied, layered and textural, with a deep, muscular profile and a long, expansive finish. While its fleshy core of ripe fruit offers appealing drinking today, I suspect this is one 1989 that still has upside with additional age in bottle. - WA
