The 1999 Richebourg is simply majestic. In fact, 1999 may be a year in which the Richebourg is just a bit more complex than the La Tâche. Hoisin, smoke, exotic spices and rich, unctuous fruit flesh out in the glass. The 1999 has more than enough fruit to fill out its big, broad frame. It, too, will drink well for several decades. This hasn't budged much since it was bottled and remains almost black with a notably ripe multidimensional nose of black cherries, spice and earth that complements well the broad-shouldered and impressively scaled medium weight plus flavors that are robust and overtly muscular where the finish retains a sense of robust power and stunning length. At age 11 the '99 Richebourg is clearly signaling that it's going to require 20 to 25 years to really be at its peak. At the same time, there is sufficient mid-palate sap to at least make it approachable sooner, perhaps in 7 to 10 years from now. One of the great vintages for this fabled wine. Many, and consistent, notes. (Drink starting 2017) - BH

1999 plus DRC always equals greatness. Aubert de Villaine and company really hit the bullseye in 1999. The Richebourg’s nose was fleshy, young and zippy, full of violets, lavender and minerals with the encrusted diamonds. The nose was super sexy, oily and ‘just like the 1990,’ per one who would know. The 1990 has a little more power at this stage I think, but the 1999 is even more seductive. - JK
